Path to Adoption

In the Delaware Valley, there are more than 1,000 children who are waiting to be adopted. The Adoption Center of Delaware Valley can help you on your journey to adoption.

If you are interested in adopting but live outside of the southeastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey or Delaware area, click here.

If you live in the Delaware Valley region follow this Path to Adoption:

1. If you live in the Delaware Valley region, and you do NOT have a completed homestudy you can fill out forms online to start the adoption process.

If you already have a completed homestudy, please proceed to step 2.

2. If you are a family with a completed homestudy, please click here to view photolistings and descriptions of Delaware Valley children waiting to be adopted.

3. The Center refers the family to an adoption agency within two weeks.

 

4. The family attends adoption agency information meeting.

 

5. The family starts the adoption process.


6. Agency social worker visits family home.

7. Adoption homestudy is complete in 3-6 months and family is now ready for adoptive placement.

 

8. Family registers with the Adoption Center.



9. The family, social worker and Adoption Center search for children.

 

10. The family's homestudy is sent to child's worker.


11. The child's worker presents information about the child to the family.

12. A family is selected for a child.

 

 

13. The child and family have several supervised visits.

 


14. The child moves in with the family.



15. The child's social worker visits the child and family for at least six months.

16. If the family needs help, its agency can offer counseling and support groups.

 

17. Happy Adoption Day! You are legally a family!
